April 12
Today was my last day of Hip Hop so we had to perform our group project. We were put into groups of 6 and had to make up choreography and choose songs for our performance.
We had been practicing for a couple of weeks and there was definitely a lot of improvement. I have only danced Salsa and Bachata so Hip Hop was a whole other vibe to me. This class really put me out of my comfort zone. When you dance Salsa, you have a partner but in Hip Hop I had already had a solo performance which was very nerve racking. Now, I had to perform with 5 other people which was nice because I wouldn’t be dancing alone but it was hard because everyone has to be in sync.
I’m glad we did this group project because I was able to get closer to these people. They were so nice and everyone was very patient with each other when learning the choreography. The group was mixed with some experienced dancers and some new learners. I was one of the new learners so it was hard for me at first but I got the hang of it.
I remember at the beginning of the semester I was on the fence about whether I wanted to keep this class or drop it but I’m so happy I kept it. It was really fun and like I said, it pushed me out of my comfort zone. I’m glad I acquired a new skill while being here. Not only did I learn some Hip Hop moves, but I also learned how to be confident when learning something new. It is hard to be ok with failing, but that is the only way you can move forward.
This weekend I am planning on going to an art museum and I am so excited because I love art and I feel like I haven’t been in touch with that part of myself. I’m going with a friend and I think it will be fun.
Other than that, school has been fine. I feel like I haven’t been really motivated though. I really need to step up my energy because I need to do well on these finals. It’s just hard to focus on studying when you are anticipating on going home. I pretty much reached the point where I just want to go home because I miss it. I am enjoying my time here but I can’t wait to be back with my friends and family and be able to do all the small things that I love doing.
