Disha Dhananjay ’26 is a Law major studying at FIE in London, England in the Dual City Florence + London program this Summer 2024.
While there is so much to do and explore in London itself, it was great to escape the city a couple times and explore the country side and beaches!!
Seven Sisters Cliffs
My favorite day trip out of London was to the Seven Sisters Cliffs. Known for its beautiful hike and views, it exceeded my expectations and if you are visiting London you should definitely not skip on the opportunity to visit Seven Sisters. It is about a 2 hour train ride from London Victoria to Lewes and then from Lewes it was a short 20 minute train to Seaford. From Seaford we started out hike to the beach and then along the coast on the trail for the cliffs.
We continued alongside the cliff for a little more than an hour until we reached the cottages. The view of the cottages and the 7 cliffs were gorgeous and well worth the long hike. Usually the weather is colder and windy so I recommend layering up, but the day we went was one of the hottest days. We walked down to the small stream that leads into the ocean and it was very refreshing water to sit by and enjoy. There were so many puppies running around that were friendly and you could play with, it was so cute. From this point, you can either head back up the stream and to the local pub, The Cuckmere Inn, or you can cross the stream and do the climb up onto the Seven Sisters Cliffs. Overall, it was a beautiful day and I really recommend it.
Brighton
The next day trip out of London that I did was to Brighton! We left in the morning from London Victoria and took a Gatwick Express train straight to Brighton. I recommend buying all train tickets through the Trainline app, it is so easy to use. Brighton is a southern coastal beach town and a day is more than enough time to spend there. While I did not go to them beach as it was still cold, we spent time walking down the main shopping streets and looking into each one. There are great options for thrifting and vintage items and a very cute stationery store called Papersmiths, that is worth the visit. After shopping around we headed down towards the right side of the pier where you can find a large food hall right on the water. It is a cool concept as there is a sit down restaurant and lots of different food items to choose from. I really recommend spending a relaxing and calming day in Brighton, there is so much to do yet not too much and it’s a great escape!
