Top 5 Study Spaces on Seoul National University’s Gwanak Campus: A Business Student’s Guide to Finals Prep

Zhibek Azamat 27′ is Business Analytics and Marketing major currently studying at Seoul National University for Fall 2024!

Finals season at Seoul National University can be intense, but finding the right study space can make all the difference. As a business student juggling case studies, group projects, and exam prep, I’ve explored the Gwanak campus extensively. Here are my top five picks for study spaces—including some great study cafes—that help me stay focused and productive:

Business School Library (Building 58)

If you’re a business student, the library in Building 58 feels like home. It’s designed with sleek furniture, a quiet atmosphere, and plenty of power outlets. The private cubicles are perfect for deep focus, while the group study rooms are excellent for brainstorming sessions. I especially appreciate the business-specific resources available here—it’s a lifesaver when preparing for management case studies or financial analysis projects.

Pro Tip: Arrive early during finals week. Seats fill up fast, especially the ones near the windows with great natural light. For finals week the building is open 24/7.

The Kwanjeong Library (Central Library)

As the largest library on campus, the Kwanjeong Library is a hub for serious studying. The 24-hour reading rooms are ideal for late-night cramming, and the designated silent areas ensure no distractions. The digital zones are equipped with high-speed internet and computers, making it easy to conduct research. Plus, the cafeteria downstairs means you don’t have to go far when hunger strikes.

Why I Love It: The variety of spaces suits different needs—whether you want to study alone, work with a group, or use multimedia tools. One thing to remember is to reserve every seat you need. People might ask you to leave the space as they have reserved even the single seat in the hallway! Use the app and reserve the study rooms with friends as they are best for studying.

Global Lounge (Building 152)

For a more casual vibe, the Global Lounge in the International Studies building is fantastic. It’s a bright, open space with comfy seating and a relaxed environment. While it’s not a silent area, it’s great for collaborative work or when you need a less stressful setting. I often come here for group discussions, as the informal setting sparks creativity and lively debates.

Every Thursday, the office of international affairs gathers international and exchange students for coffee breaks where I was able to meet so many other students from around the globe.

Best Feature: The international ambiance and occasional chance to meet exchange students make this a culturally enriching study spot.

On-Campus Study Cafes

The study cafes on campus are a game-changer for students who thrive in a cozy, caffeine-fueled environment. Two standout options are:

Pro Tip: During finals week, these cafes can get crowded, so try to secure a spot early or during off-peak hours. Make sure to go there with friends to make it more productive!

The Law School Library (Building 15)

Although it’s technically the domain of law students, the Law School Library is a hidden gem for anyone seeking absolute quiet. It’s less crowded than the central library, making it a peaceful retreat for intensive study sessions. The vibe here is serious, which can be motivating when you’re buried in financial modeling or strategy frameworks.

You can book the rooms for the entire day and even stay overnight which my friend and I did during the finals climax week, lol. The majority of the people stayed overnight with us.

Why It’s Worth It: The no-nonsense atmosphere pushes you to stay productive.

Bonus: Outdoor Spaces

When the weather is pleasant, outdoor spots like the grassy areas near the Administration Building or the benches by the Business School provide a refreshing change of pace. It’s nice to review flashcards or draft essays while soaking up some sunlight and fresh air. Definitely recommend mid October early November period to watch a golden fall season!

The Gwanak campus offers a diverse range of study spaces, each with its own vibe and advantages. Adding study cafes to your routine can bring a refreshing change of pace and energy to your finals prep. As a business student, balancing coursework with group projects means choosing the right environment is key to success. Whether you need silence, collaboration, or a great cup of coffee, these spaces will help you power through finals week. Good luck, and happy studying! 💼📚
