My Parisian Home

Moving to a new home is tough and if your new home is altogether in a different city, the moving process becomes more intimidating. Here’s a guide to help you acclimate to your new environment quickly.

#1 Do your Research

As cliché as this may sound, trust me, do it. In a different city there are so many different neighborhoods. Asses the various areas to see which one would fit with your personality and your budget. Your living situation can make or break your experience. Find out about neighborhoods that are considered unsafe and avoid living there. I went through Comforts of Home to select my accommodation. I recommend you to use this service. My typical Parisian apartment was located in the heart of the city. The location was great; easily accessible and safe. ESCE was only a 20-minute metro ride away from my apartment!

#2 Be an explorer, not a tourist

When you arrive in a new city, make sure to really explore it. The best way to do that is to walk around. You will see the culture more closely and find local shops and places where locals go to. Don’t be afraid to try something new such as new cuisines or activities you haven’t done before or even talking to locals in French. Challenge yourself!

#3 Create a budget

A recommended budget would be $1200-$1500 per month for entertainment, eating out, groceries and buying personal items. If you wish to travel during weekends (take advantage of your close proximity to other countries and cheap travel options within Europe), you need to increase your budget according to your interests.

Talk to your bank. Keep them informed about your travel plans. This is to avoid an unnecessary glitch while you are on the go.

If there is a huge fee associated with every transaction, withdraw some cash. It is important that you keep loose bills and coins with you. You don’t want to be stuck in case you come across unfortunate incidents such as your bank card being stolen.

#4 Social Media

Connect with your social media friends and ask them for recommendations or introductions to places or locals. You may find someone who has visited Paris before or may know of someone who lives there and can connect you. Follow social media influencers in Paris to get a better insight into whats going on in and around the city!
