Hey there, Drexel! This blog is a bit different from the others because it’s quite special to me. This past week held something extraordinary – on March 7th, I celebrated my birthday! I turned 21, officially reaching adulthood in the United States. What a thrill!
It all began on Thursday at noon with a delightful surprise from my best friend and roommate, Alexane. She played the birthday song, and suddenly, my other roommates walked in with a chocolate cake adorned with 21 candles and a message that read, “Welcome to adulthood.” It warmed my heart to have everyone celebrate together. Then, my phone started buzzing – turns out, my friends had organized a surprise party at a nearby house in University City. Excitedly, I changed, freshened up, spritzed on some cologne, and headed to the party with all my international friends. We had a great night – grooving to music, dancing, and just goofing around.
After the festivities, it was time to hit the hay because the next day was the big one. As soon as I woke up, I received a heartwarming birthday video from my family, complete with a cake and candle-blowing session. They’re the sweetest, they even sent me a Teddy Bear as a birthday gift and I loved it. Moreover, stepping out of my room, Alexane had prepared banana pancakes for breakfast, and Xavi, my other roommate, surprised me with thoughtful gifts I didn’t expect – a mug and a UPenn cap. I was over the moon!

Later, it was off to class for Behavioral Neuroscience, but after that, a special meal awaited with my friends. We decided on Mexican cuisine – indulging in birria quesadillas, chicken tacos, burritos, and nachos with guacamole. It was delicious! Following that, I headed to choir practice, where we rehearsed for our upcoming recital next week. There’s nothing like singing to clear the mind and fill the heart with joy.

After practice, my friends from Spain, as well as those on Erasmus in Germany, Sweden, England, and China, all started calling to wish me a happy birthday. It meant the world to me that everyone remembered. In the evening, my residence buddies and I went for dinner at White Dog Café, where I topped off the day with a mouthwatering burger and fries. And of course, there was a second cake to blow out candles with everyone.
This weekend, I’ll wrap up my birthday celebrations by finally hitting the American clubs. Can’t wait for it!
