From D.C. to Philly: A blossoming beginning

Sensory Adventures. Blossom scents & Savory delights

In the heart of the nation’s capital, where history echoes through every corner, lies the enchanting canvas of the National Mall. As I walked down the streets adorned with cherry blossoms, every step felt like a stroll through a painting. This was an irreplaceable feeling because it was always summer all year long back in Singapore. And I thought to myself: “so this is how Spring feels like“.

I found myself immersed in a whirlwind of captivating experiences, where the sweet scent of cherry blossoms mingled with the melody of laughter and rustling of leaves.

Our journey began with a visit to the iconic White House, where its brilliant white exterior stood as a beacon of democracy, commanding our attention with its timeless elegance.

The White House

For the first time in my life, I saw the Secret Service agents stationed around the vicinity of the White House. They looked cool with their vests and equipment on.

As we ventured further, I was drawn by the tall, majestic silhouette of the Washington Monument, where the Blossom Kite Festival imbued the air with an atmosphere of joy and celebration.

Amidst the fluttering kites and blooming cherry blossoms, I had my first taste of grilled cheese. Its comforting warmth was a welcoming respite from the brisk spring air.

Children dart and weaved among the monument’s base, their colorful kites trailing behind in the wind. Vibrant streaks of color breathed life into the cloudy sky. It was an unforgettable experience.

As the day progressed, I found solace in the serene beauty of the Jefferson Memorial and Tidal Basin. Within the halls of the Smithsonian American History Museum and the National Museum of Natural History, I embarked on a journey through time, exploring the intricate mosaic of human civilization and wonders of the natural world.

From the grandeur of the US Capitol to the solemn dignity of the Supreme Court, each landmark bore witness to the enduring legacy of this remarkable city. And beneath the watchful gaze of Abraham Lincoln at the iconic Lincoln Memorial, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of reverence for the ideals of freedom that define the American spirit.

As the time came to bid farewell to the captivating charm of Washington D.C., I found myself engulfed in a bittersweet embrace of nostalgia. Amidst the melancholy of departure, there was a glimmer of excitement for the journey ahead. As I said goodbye to my friends, with Philadelphia beckoning on the horizon, anticipation swelled within me.
