“When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life” – Samuel Johnson
I’ve only been here for almost 2 weeks and I already feel as though I have been here for much longer. After adjusting and settling into my new home in Kensington, I have had a some time to explore the bourough.
One of the orientation activities planned by FIE included a couch bus tour of London. It was here that I was able to scope out specific places that I want to visit and food places that are a must. We also took a tour of the Palace of Westminster, where the Parliament is located. It was so interesting to see where laws were made and to think about how much history these places have, but it was even more exciting to see the rooms that many of my favorite shows recreated. Attached to the Palace of Westminster is where the Big Ben is located. Unfortunately, unbeknowest to me, the Big Ben is currently under construction. As you can see below, only one side of the clock can be viewed and the rest is covered in such beautiful scaffolding….yay.
On our day off from orientation events, my roommate and I decided to take a trip to Buckingham Palace before we got swamped with classwork and it was definitly worth the trip. Taking a moment to pay attention to the symbols on the gates, details of the statues, and the surroundings of the Palace was the highlight of my day. It was so beautiful and was surprisingly less crowded than expected. I cannot wait to see the difference when the Royal wedding occurs!
