OVERVIEW
- Make a list of all the places you want to go and plan ahead
- Ask the locals about the holidays they celebrate while you will be there and try to get involved so you can experience it in that country
- Bring an extra battery just in case your camera dies !!!! So important, it would suck if you saw something awesome and couldn’t capture it
I don’t have classes on Wednesday. (YAY ME)…So, this Wednesday I decided to go to Chinatown.
It was so packed with people and many, many….many things to buy. I assume it is always like this but it must have been even more packed these last couple of days because people are getting ready for Chinese New Year.
Chinese New Year is celebrated by the locals at their home with a special tradition. I was explained all of this by one of the local students. So, anyone who is married or is one of the elderly people, gives money to the younger people in their family. This money is put into red envelopes and can also be called red packets. This money is to give good luck in success to the young people of the family. Then, in return…the younger people of the family give back oranges which symbolizes good luck as well.
Exactly as I was explained to, as soon as I got to the Chinese Heritage Centre, I saw red envelopes and oranges everywhere. I saw so many red objects all over the place. It was really cool because there were all these little stores selling items of the color red for the decoration of Chinese New Year. The entire store was red, everything, even the walls.
I walked into a bunch of the stores and saw so many different things. I took my camera with me and took a bunch of pictures to make sure I would remember the presence of the people and shops in that area. But, I am sure I will return to this area again because I want to buy some stuff haha.
As I walked away from Chinatown, I discovered a building that I was drooling all over on Instagram. There is this hotel called the Pickering Hotel in Singapore that is absolutely beautiful. It’s not as big as I thought it would be but it was still incredible. There is so much greenery on it, which makes it beautiful but also functional with its environment. I don’t know much about the science behind this building but I will for sure research it to make sure I understand.
I had fun on this little trip and I think I will go to Little India next!!!
